A 50-unit housing development designed for low- to moderate-income families got a green light from the Eagan City Council on Tuesday.
Dakota County Community Development Agency officials and Eagan City Council members did their best Tuesday night to assuage the fears of a group of Lemay Lake residents worried about a 50-unit affordable housing facility proposed for the area. Neighbors living near the proposed site of the workforce housing facility expressed concerns over the increased traffic, crime and crowding the project could bring to the neighborhood. In the end, the council voted unanimously to move forward with the project; approving rezoning, a site plan and final platting for the development, which will be located at 1319 Jurdy Road. The complex, which would be developed and operated by the CDA, is part of the agency's Family Townhome Program. The program is …

The Dakota County Community Development Agency wants to construct a 50-unit facility near Lemay Lake in Eagan.
The Dakota County Community Development Agency can't get enough of Eagan. Last summer, the agency broke ground on a 47-unit affordable housing complex along Northwood Parkway in Eagan. Then, in December, it unveiled plans for a similar, 27-unit facility along Hwy. 13, which received Eagan City Council approval in March. On Tuesday, agency officials were once again before the Eagan Advisory Planning Commission—this time with plans for a 50-unit townhome complex at 1319 Jurdy Road—just southeast of Moonshine Park and adjacent to Lemay Lake. The commission unanimously recommended approval of a preliminary site plan and rezoning request. The project will likely hit the Eagan City Council on May 7 for a vote. If approved, the facility would be …

Plans for a 27-unit affordable housing development along Hwy. 13 in Eagan cleared a final hurdle at the Eagan City Council meeting Tuesday night. The Eagan City Council voted unanimously to approve a Comprehensive Guide Plan amendment, rezoning, a site plan and final platting for the Riverview Ridge townhome complex, which will be owned and operated by the Dakota County Community Development Agency. Construction on the townhome development could start as soon as this spring, with an anticipated completion date of summer 2014, according to CDA Deputy Executive Director Kari Gill. Located on a 4.3-acre site north of Letendre Street, the development will include a basketball court, recreation area and pedestrian access to nearby neighborhoods…

In the old days, before the government thought it would be a good idea to build utopian ghetto projects, poor families were able to rent the secondary housing, homes that were older, less sale-able...it was the proverbial "other side of the tracks." That was one way that the housing stock got utilized. Rather than let private parties work out rental rates and sell second- and third-tier housing …   more ›
