Hostesses Dish on How to Prepare for food-allergic guests

As families gather 'round the table this Thanksgiving, some guests may have to skip the stuffing or pass on pumpkin pie because of severe food allergies, celiac disease and other nutritional challenges. If there is a food allergic person on your guest list, how do you ensure that a trip 'over the river and through the woods' to your house doesn't end with a trip to the emergency room? "Ask, ask, ask," advises Lynn Carlson of Eagan, who has had multiple food allergies for more than 50 years. "I can't just take something because it looks good. I have to ask what's in it." My son has celiac, and finding gluten-free options, especially when eating out, is extremely difficult. Even when a restaurant offers gluten-free options, they often don't promote the fact.   more ›
