Southeastern Metro Responds to Supreme Court Ruling on Obamacare

Residents, local health care providers and politicians weigh in on the Supreme Court decision that President Obama's 'Affordable Health Care Act' does not violate the Constitution.

At a Starbucks Coffee in Lakeville on Thursday, two men were huddled over a laptop computer, a game of cribbage set to the side. "This is an outrage," one man said to nobody in particular. "I'm moving to Canada," the other replied. "You can't. They have government-run health care, too," the first man said. "Well what the heck? I can't believe this—Roberts in the majority, for the bad guys," the second said as both laughed. Larry Kringle, the first man, and Jimmy Johnson, the second, were reacting to today's news that the U.S. Supreme Court upheld the constitutionality of the Affordable Health Care Act that President Barack Obama signed into law last year. Investment Firm Purchases Blue Cross Headquarters in Eagan

W.P. Carey & Co. LLC. purchased the properties for nearly $153 million, according to Finance and Commerce.

New York-based W.P. Carey & Co. LLC. announced on Thursday that it purchased Blue Cross Blue Shield's Eagan headquarters and two other office facilities for nearly $153 million, according to Finance and Commerce. The investment firm entered a sale-leaseback deal with Blue Cross, which will remain in the buildings under a long-term triple net lease, according to a press release issued by W.P. Carey. The eight office facilities, located in Eagan, Aurora and Virginia, total roughly 1.1 million square feet. "The financing is an excellent exmaple of our ability and capacity to be a substantial long-term source of capital to companies looking to strategically grow their businesses," W.P. BlueCycle Campaign Kicks-off on National Bike to Work Day

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota is the largest employer in Minnesota to launch a bike share system for employee wellness.

BlueCycle, a new bike sharing program for employees at Eagan-based Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota was officially launched on Friday, May 20 to coincide with National Bike to Work Day.  3,500 Eagan Blue Cross employees will be able to check out a bicycle to ride between buildings, get some exercise before or after work and at lunch, run errands, or ride to a nearby restaurant for lunch. Eighteen bicycles have been distributed between four of the seven Blue Cross office buildings in Eagan and another two are available for use at their Virginia, MN office. BlueCyle has been in the planning stages for a about a year and is sponsored by the company's human resources and prevention groups. "We've had really high interest," says Sarah …
