Jazz, Flamenco and Don Quixote: Caponi Plans Summer Artist Series

Caponi art park will hold a summer artist series targeted at children and their families every Tuesday morning between June and August.

Caponi Art Park will be holding an outdoor summer artist series every Tuesday morning in June, July and August. The "Family Fun Tuesdays" programming is designed for children age 3 to 12 and their parents. The series seeks to show the connection between different cultures' artistic styles as they change over time, and it will include music, dance and stories from Mexico, the Caribbean and the United States. Families are encouraged to stay after the performances to explore the art park or enjoy a picnic lunch on the lawn. Caponi Art Park has more: Childcare and schools groups must call ahead for space availability and fees. All events take place Tuesday mornings from 10 – 11 a.m. in the sculpture garden. Caponi Art Park Opening on May 18

Visitors will be able to explore Caponi Art Park and enjoy ongoing art activities for all ages, including a craft scavenger hunt and word walk in the sculpture garden.

After a delay due to unfavorable weather, Caponi Art Park in Eagan will open its doors for the 2013 season by hosting a spring open house from 1 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 18. Visitors can explore Caponi Art Park and enjoy ongoing art activities for all ages, including a craft scavenger hunt and word walk in the sculpture garden. Snacks and refreshments will be served and self-guided tour booklets will be available on a first come, first served basis. Park staff will also be on hand to answer questions. In the event of poor weather, the spring open house will be canceled. Weather-related announcements will be made via the park’s website, E-newsletter, and Facebook page.

The art park will host workshops and a photo contest this summer along with a Family Portraiture Day.

Lingering Winter Delays Caponi Art Park Opening

Caponi Art Park in Eagan announced on Friday that the opening of the park, planned for May 1, will be postponed until May 18.

The unusually foul spring weather has claimed another victim. Caponi Art Park in Eagan announced on Friday that the opening of the park, planned for May 1, will be postponed until May 18. Consistent snow and cold temperatures have so far prevented park officials from performed needed spring maintenance, according to a news release issued by the park. As a result of the delayed opening, the park's annual Poets in the Park Teen Poetry Slam—scheduled from 2 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, May 5, will be moved indoors to the Wescott Library in Eagan. Teen Poetry Slam to Cap Lyrical Month at Caponi Art Park

Caponi Art Park is hosting several poetry-related activities in April and May.

This month (and early next month) Caponi Art Park is hosting a poetry jam, a film screening, and the annual Poets in the Park Teen Poetry Slam in celebration of National Poetry Month. Caponi has more in a press release:  In celebration of National Poetry Month, Caponi Art Park and Learning Center will host poetry programming for aspiring teen poets in collaboration with the School of Environmental Studies, Dakota County Library, and the Apple Valley Teen Center. Writers, Ready Your Pens; Dakota County Annual Poetry Contest Now Open

Winners will have their poems published on the Dakota County Library website and will be recognized at a series of events this spring.

Caponi Art Park Awarded $9,950 MRAC Grant Funding

On Jan. 29, the Metropolitan Regional Arts Council awarded $215,730 in funding to a handful of organizations as part of its Arts Learning program.

On Jan. 29, the MRAC awarded $215,730 in grants to organizations as part of its Arts Learning program. Caponi Art Park received $9,950 of that total to fund its Family Fun Tuesdays program, which includes 13 weekly interactive performances and workshops for inter-generational audiences. Eagan City Council Says Yes to Caponi Art Park Purchase

On Tuesday, the council unanimously agreed to enter into a joint purchase agreement with Dakota County to buy 27.12 acres of the park. The decision ensures the entirety of the park will remain intact and preserved.

The council voted unanimously to purchase 27.12 acres of the 57-acre park for $800,000—a cost that will be split equally by Dakota County and the city. Eagan already owns the remaining acreage, which was purchased in 2005. Tuesday's decision means that park proponents and 91-year-old park founder Tony Caponi can rest easy. The final closing date for the purchase must occur on or before Dec. 31, 2014. …

I do think the right decision was made in the purchase of this land. I think Tom Hedges summed it up when he commented on how public entities, non-profit organizations and private individuals can come together to protect open space for use by all. I too am looking forward to summer concerts and hopefully some art opportunities.   more ›
