Fishermen Reminded of Upcoming Ice House and Shelter Removal Date

After removal dates, shelters may remain on the ice between midnight and one hour before sunrise only when occupied or attended.

Follow Eagan Patch on Twitter | Like us on Facebook | Sign up for our daily newsletter | Blog for us Editor's Note: The following is a news release from the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR). Minnesota’s ice fishing shelter removal dates are approaching, and dark houses, fish houses and portables must be off Eagan lakes no later than midnight on March 4. Enforcement action will be taken if shelters are left after the deadlines. Those not removing shelters will be prosecuted. Conservation officers may remove the structure and confiscate or destroy it. It is also unlawful to store or leave a shelter at a public access. Anglers are advised to remove shelters earlier, if ice conditions warrant. For border waters, the shelter …

Minnesota Deer Hunting Season: Where to Buy A License in Dakota County

The state's deer hunting season begins on Nov. 3, and officials at the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources say the take should be good due to a spike in the deer population.

Follow Eagan Patch on Twitter | Like us on Facebook | Sign up for our daily newsletter | Blog for us Hunters are in for a heck of a deer season this year. So says the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, which estimates that there are about 1 million deer in the state. “Minnesota’s deer population is up from last year, in part, because of the mild winter,” Lou Cornicelli, the DNR’s wildlife research manager, said in a press release. “Mild winters result in more survival of adults, more fawns being born, and more deer in the state’s fields and forests the following hunting season.”  However, the population is not evenly distributed and in 2012 there are fewer areas where hunters can legally harvest more than one deer. The agency has …

SUV Falls Through Ice on Fish Lake

No one was injured in the incident, which occurred after 9 a.m. on Monday.

A would-be ice fisherman took an unexpected dip in Fish Lake when the Ford Escape he was driving fell through the ice on Monday morning. Eagan Police and Fire Department units responded to the incident, which occurred around 9:20 a.m., and were able to remove the vehicle from the lake with the help of a tow truck. The vehicle fell through in roughly 2.5 feet of water, Eagan Police spokeswoman Danielle Anselment said on Tuesday morning. There were two adult occupants in the small SUV at the time of the incident, Anselment said. Neither was injured. The man was able to get out of the car and get to shore, where he called emergency services, Anselment said. The fire department was able to chisel away the ice around the vehicle and remove the …

Parks Reopen for Eagan Visitors

Several state parks are either fully or partially open, but the real work now lies in assessing their condition.

Eagan residents who typically check out state parks near the city can once again visit them. Originally scheduled to open at 8 a.m. Friday morning, Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Commissioner Tom Landwehr reported that as of 11 a.m. Thursday morning, 11 state parks are fully open, with an additional 15 parks partially open. “Welcome back. We missed you," Landwehr said. Check out this link for a list of the operational status of all DNR facilities. While more than 2,700 DNR employees returned to work Thursday morning, parks and trails director, Courtland Nelson, explained that the most pressing job is still assessing the condition of the parks. “We’ll be checking water and sewer lines and debriefing staff as quickly as possible,” …

Eagan Services Curtailed in Shutdown

Eagan businesses field questions, comments from consumers

Sue Baker, manager of Eagan Auto License, wants people to know they are open. People still can renew their drivers license and even can transfer titles at this independent license service center located at 3932 Cedar Grove Parkway. What they can't do is get license tabs for boats, trailers, ATVs, or snowmobiles because these are considered DNR transactions. Baker said they were swamped on Thursday with people getting their boat and trailer tabs in anticipation of the shutdown.  She said the phones on Friday morning were ringing constantly with people checking to see if Eagan Auto License was open. The answer is yes, they are open regular hours but will have to hold on to the paperwork and won't be able to send it in until after the state …
