EHS Cross Country Star Danielle Anderson Receives Athena Award

Anderson, who led the Eagan High School girls track team through state and to a national competition last fall, is one of 39 award recipients.

Eagan High School senior Danielle Anderson, who led the girls cross country team to the Nike Cross Country Nationals in Oregon last fall, has been recognized as a St. Paul Area Athena Award recipient. The awards are given to young women representing St. paul and nearby suburbs for their outstanding athletic achievements. This year, all 39 recipients will be honored at an awards ceremony and luncheon in Oakdale on April 17. The event will also feature keynote speaker Rachel Blount, a sports reporter and columnist at the Star Tribune. The Athena Awards Committee is comprised of representatives of St. Paul city and suburban schools, parents of previous award winners, and business volunteers. Three Eagan High School Seniors Sign Athletic Letters of Intent

Danielle Anderson, Jabri Guy and Kat Torres all pledged to compete at the collegiate level during a short ceremony on Wednesday morning at Eagan High School.

The Eagan High School senior will get his chance next fall; on Wednesday morning, he signed a letter of intent pledging to play football at Rochester Community Technical College after graduating. Guy wasn't the only EHS senior to sign on the dotted line on Wednesday. Fellow seniors Danielle Anderson and Kat Torres, who also participated in the short ceremony in the high school's multi-purpose room, will play at the University of Minnesota and Hillsdale College in Michigan, respectively. Anderson Leads Eagan In National Cross Country Meet

Mud, rain and obstacles made the slogging difficult, but the Eagan cross county girls team raced to a 19th-place finish in a meet of the nation's best high school runners.

French finished first in a time of 13:57.6. Anderson, a senior at Eagan, was second in 14:06.5. Wayzata won the team title with 50 points. Eagan was second in the 16-team race with 93. The race was held in cloudy and calm conditions with the temperature in the 30s at St. Olaf College in Northfield. Eagan’s top five runners all finished in the top 40 out of the 174 runners who competed Saturday afternoon. Eagan sophomore Karina Johnson was 13th with a time of 14:51.1, junior …

Anderson Leads Eagan Girls to Cross Country Crown and to State

Senior Danielle Anderson blazed past the field to win the Section 3AA cross country individual championship Thursday; Eagan girls win team title and qualify for state.

Anderson won in a time of 14:22.6, some 37 seconds faster than second-place finisher Vivian Hett of Burnsville (14:59.8). “It went really well for me,” said Anderson. “It was really muddy, though, and pretty hilly, so I didn’t know what to expect. VIDEO: EHS Running Star Danielle Anderson Places Third at Roy Griak

On Sept. 29, Anderson placed third out of more than 400 runners at the prestigious Roy Griak Invitational held at the Les Bolstad Golf Course at the University of Minnesota. Anderson, who had a time of 18:18, placed behind Shakopee's Maria Hauger, who was first with a time of 17:50, and Shawnee Mission West's Alli Cash, who had a time of 17:56.
