Eagan Art House Hosting Community Reception to Review Public Art Plans

Check out the results from the Art House's two-year community art survey and view several public art proposals on May 10.

Editor's Note: The following is a press release from the Eagan Art House. The Eagan Art House will host a reception from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, May 10 to celebrate the two-year community survey project about the arts in Eagan. Read about the survey results, view the public art final proposals and visit with other arts supporters. Light refreshments will be served. This project is supported, in part, by funds provided by the Metropolitan Regional Arts Council through and appropriation by the Minnesota Legislature. Local Artists Define the Importance of Art in New Eagan Art House Annual Exhibit

The art house's annual “Art Is ... Exhibit and Artist Perspective” is currently on display through April 27 at two locations n Eagan.

Editor's Note: The following is a news release from the Eagan Art House. The annual “Art Is ... Exhibit and Artist Perspective” is currently on display through April 27th at Ring Mountain Creamery and Byerly’s Eagan. The exhibit features 25 local artists in media including watercolor, pastel, acrylic, oil and photography. The exhibit also includes artist statements expressing how they are inspired and why art is important to them. Also on display at the Eagan Community Center, is artwork of Eagan Art House watercolor students. The display features 10 artists from the Adventures in Watercolor classes at the Art House. Eagan Uses Grant Funding to Commission Public Art Piece

Eagan is about to get a little more artsy. City officials are searching for an artist to design and build a public art installation.

The city's Parks and Recreation Department put out a call last week for artists interested in creating a sculpture, mural, garden or other public art project that will be installed this summer on city property in Eagan. The only requirement? The piece must reflect Eagan's community identity. Proposals for a temporary or permanent art piece must be submitted by March 15. The artist behind the winning idea will receive $5,000 to create the piece, courtesy of a grant from the Metropolitan Regional Arts Council. Local Group Takes Their Fight for Public Art to Eagan City Council

A letter from the Dakota Center for the Arts urging the council to promote public art at two large commercial developments in Eagan sparked a wider conversation last week.

Earlier this year, the Dakota Center for the Arts (DCA) sent a letter to council members urging them to include public art in any new commercial development projects in the city—including two large redevelopment efforts already underway in Eagan's Cedar Grove neighborhood and at the former Lockheed Martin property. I hope Eagan does incorporate more art into public spaces. It reminds us of our connectedness, softens the concrete and glass city structures, and evokes emotional responses! My home town of Sioux Falls has sculpture on every street corner downtown. It's another reason I make sure I GO downtown when I visit family there.   more ›
