Donate to Your Favorite Local Nonprofit During Give to the Max Day on Nov. 15

Give to the Max Day is an annual opportunity for Minnesotans to donate to their favorite local, regional or statewide nonprofits.

Those are some big numbers, and Minnesotans will get another chance to beat that mark on Nov. 15 as Give to the Max Day rolls around once again. Launched in 2009, Give to the Max Day is an annual opportunity for Minnesotans to donate to their favorite local, regional or statewide nonprofits at GiveMN's website. What started as a conversation about how to serve clients better has turned into an innovative approach to hunger relief. The Eagan and Lakeville Resource Center’s new Mobile Pantry will be rolling out to neighborhoods with fresh, healthy foods for families in need of food support. Organizers Add New Twist to EHS Senior Party

Eagan High School seniors will get the opportunity to help a handful of local nonprofit organizations this year during the high school's senior party on June 2. The new initiative, called Wildcat CARE, is an addition to the tableau of dancing, inflatable games and contests that is the high school's annual send-off for graduating students. As part of Wildcats CARE, senior party attendees can choose to spend part of their night participating in one of two separate volunteer projects. The projects include packing 500 snack bags for the Eagan and Lakeville Resource Centers and the Ronald McDonald House or writing letters…

Eagan YMCA's New Garden Will Grow Produce for the Needy

The YMCA broke ground Friday on a 900-square-foot community garden.

It will cover 900 square feet, it will provide an outdoorsy educational experience for area youth and it will bring together a handful of area businesses and organizations. But mostly, a new community garden at the Eagan YMCA will provide cartloads of fresh produce for needy local families, thanks to a partnership with the Eagan and Lakeville Resource Centers. On Friday, the Eagan YMCA broke ground on the 26-foot-by-36-foot community garden, which is located near the Y's childcare entrance at its facilities at 550 Opperman Drive in Eagan. Eventually, YMCA officials hope the garden can grow tomatoes, peppers, squash, zucchini and other vegetables for the food shelf for use in the nonprofit's "Gardens to Tables" program. Eagan YMCA …

Eagan and Lakeville Resource Centers Provide Hungry with Healthy Options

The local food shelf prepares for a summer of sustainable community vegetable gardening.

The Eagan and Lakeville Resource Centers are mobilizing the Dakota County community to provide healthy food that doesn’t come in a can for those in need. “They’re definitely in touch with the community’s need for food,” said Mary Montagne, health promotion supervisor for the Dakota County Health Department. The department was among the ELRC’s original funders, and has given them approximately $4,000 in state grant funding to support the nonprofit's Garden To Table program. Garden To Table was recently recognized by the Minnesota State Horticultural Society, when the ELRC received the St. Paul Garden Club Award for excellence in community vegetable gardening last month. Third Annual Empty Bowls Fundraiser Scheduled for Thursday

The Eagan and Lakeville Resource Center's annual charity event returns this Thursday.

Editor's Note: The following is a press release from the Eagan and Lakeville Resource Centers. The Eagan and Lakeville Resource Centers welcome the community to take part in the third Annual Empty Bowls fundraiser to be held Thursday, March 22,  from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Mount Calvary Lutheran Church, 3930 Rahn Road in Eagan. This unique event pairs local art with hunger relief advocates to raise money to eliminate hunger in Dakota County. Local potters have been throwing bowls throughout the year so that by March, over 800 bowls have been handcrafted. Guests of the event select a handmade bowl, make a donation (suggested $20 per bowl) to hunger relief, enjoy signature soup and bread from one of many local restaurants, and leave with an “…
