But the Wildcats' trademark late-game rally was not in sight during the Class 2A state hockey quarterfinals on Thursday afternoon. Third-ranked Hill-Murray overpowered Eagan 6-2, after scoring four goals in the third period at the Xcel Energy Center. Eagan's Megan Wolfe Named Pioneer Press 'Player of the Year'

Wolfe is a senior at Eagan High School and a standout forward on the girls hockey team.

On Monday, the Pioneer Press named Wolfe, a forward on the Wildcats hockey team, its "Player of the Year". Wolfe, who has 136 goals and 129 assists in her five-year varsity career, started playing hockey when she was 4 years old. This year, she also represented the United States at the International Ice Hockey Federation's U18 women's world championship. Wolfe will lead the Eagan girls hockey team to its eighth state tournament beginning on Thursday, when the team squares off against Hill-Murray at the Xcel Energy Center.

Eagan Girls Hockey Takes on Minnetonka at State Tournament

The game starts at 6 p.m. on Thursday at the Xcel Center in St. Paul.

The Eagan High School girls hockey team will challenge the top-seeded Minnetonka High School girls hockey team during their first state tournament game on Thursday evening. The battle begins Thursday at 6 p.m. at the Xcel Energy Center. Click here for the tournament bracket. Minnetonka (25-5-1) is defending its 2011 Class AA State Hockey title against the Wildcats (22-3-3). Eagan took down Apple Valley 2-1 in the Class 2A, Section 3 championship game last week. Roseville is the No. 2 seed in the state tournament and will play Grand Rapids/Greenway on Thursday at 11 a.m. If Eagan wins, the team play again at 8 p.m. on Friday. The championship game is 7 p.m. on Saturday.

Wildcats Remain Winless On Season

Eagan girls hockey team falls to 0-3 with loss at Eastview.

The Eagan girls hockey team fell to 0-3 on the young season following a 2-1 loss to Eastview at the Apple Valley Sports Arena on Tuesday, Nov. 23. After allowing a first period goal to the host Lightning, the Wildcats went down 2-1. Eastview added a tally midway through the third period as Eagan appeared on its way to a second-consecutive shutout loss despite outshooting the Lightning nearly 2-to-1 on the night. However, a late goal by defender Megan Juricko, scored with just 13 seconds left in the game and assisted by forward Molly Sparks and defender Crissy Economou, got the Wildcats on the board before the final horn.
