Eagan Loses to Park in Home Opener

Wildcats girls hockey team drops to 0-2 after 3-0 loss to Wolfpack.

The Eagan girls hockey team fell to 0-2 on the season following a 3-0 loss to Park of Cottage Grove in the Wildcats home opener on Saturday, Nov. 20. The visiting Wolfpack recorded one goal in each period while holding the Wildcats scoreless as Park goaltender Allie Morse turned aside all 26 Eagan shots to earn her team its first victory of the year. Wildcats goalie Emily Oltrogge made 19 saves in defeat. Junior forward Bre Steele led Eagan in shots with 11 attempts on the Park net, while eighth grader Rachel Wall fired nine shots on Morse. The Wildcats are scheduled to set out on a five-game road trip, beginning on Tuesday night when Eagan faces Eastview in the first game of the new South Suburban Conference season for both squads. Wildcats Fall in Season Opener

Eagan girls hockey team out-shoots host Shakopee 39-17, yet falls 5-4.

It wasn't quite the start to the 2010-11 girls hockey season that Eagan had hoped for as the Wildcats were beaten 5-4 at Shakopee on Tuesday. "We played well, but our goaltending let us down," co-head coach Scott Darwitz said. Eagan out-shot its hosts 39-17 in the contest, but never led, en route to beginning the season 0-1. After the Wildcats spent much of the early minutes of the game killing off penalties, the host Sabers opened the scoring with an even-strength goal at 12:17 of the first period to take a 1-0 lead. However, Eagan struck back to knot the count at 1-all as sophomore winger Megan Wolfe recorded the Wildcats' first tally of the season with an unassisted goal at 13:00. Yet, the deadlock would last only 58 seconds as Shakopee…

Fall? With 4 goals to Shakopee's 5, I'd say it was qite a game! Mr. Darwitz"s comment on one player ("...our goaltending let us down...") was certainly inappropriate. After a comment like that, I wouldn't bother to suit up for another game.
