No. 3 and top-seeded Wildcats fall to upset-minded Eastview in Class 3AA Section Finals Tuesday
The first time around it was Eagan on top. This time, the time that counted, it was the Eastview Lightning striking. Eastview upset No. 3 and top-seeded Eagan 2-0 in the Class 3AA Section Finals Tuesday evening at Park of Cottage Grove to advance to the girls state soccer tournament. The eighth-ranked Lightning (13-2-4) will play in the soccer tournament quarterfinals Oct. 26-28, the exact time, day and site to be determined in a Saturday seeding meeting. Senior midfielder Taryn MacMillan staked the Lightning to a quick 1-0 lead just 5:13 into the game, and that proved to be all the goals Eastview would need. Anderson's goal stands as Knutson logs fourth shutout in win at Prior Lake on Tuesday.
It was an abbreviated mid-week schedule, but one in which the Eagan girls soccer team joined the volleyball squad among the ranks of the high school’s unbeaten clubs. The news was not as good for Wildcats boys soccer, however. Girls Soccer Roselyn Anderson’s lone tally—her third of the season—held up as the Eagan girls soccer team topped host Prior Lake, 1-0, in the South Suburban Conference opener on Tuesday to improve to 5-0. Wildcats goalkeeper Kristen Knutson logged her fourth shutout of the season, making seven saves to preserve the victory.
