Parkview Will Open on May 3 for 'Last Hurrah'

Proceeds from the golf course, which is slated for redevelopment, will go toward several local charity causes.

Parkview Golf Course's fate may be sealed, but owners and developers have decided to give local golfers one last shot at playing the course. Parkview co-owner Robert Zakheim announced late last week that the course will open on May 3 for the spring season, and that all net proceeds from the driving range and green fees will be donated to a pair of local charity causes: The Eagan Resource Center and the family of former Parkview employee Ken Severson. Severson, a longtime employee of the course, passed away of a rare heart condition. Proceeds will be used to bolster the college funds of Severson's two children. "Parkview Golf Associates and Hunter Emerson are excited about this plan," Zakheim wrote in a news release issued late last week. "…

Thanks, Mr. Mayor, for your reply and shedding clearer light on the topic for this reader. My issue with losing green space notwithstanding, my cynicism really has more to do with the current owner than with the actions of the council....especially given the amount of information available to you.   more ›

VIDEO: After Parkview Decision, It's Time to Heal, Mayor Says

Mayor Mike Maguire spoke with Patch regarding the council's decision to approve the Parkview redevelopment, moving forward and his own personal stake as a resident living near the golf course.

Voting in favor of the redevelopment of Parkview Golf Course was a particularly difficult—and personal—decision, Eagan Mayor Mike Maguire told Eagan Patch on Thursday. Maguire, a longtime resident of one of the neighborhoods near the golf course, spoke with Patch to offer his own perspective on the decision, and to respond to criticism leveled by opponents of the council's decision. On Tuesday, the council voted 4-1 to approve a land use amendment, rezoning, subdivision, site plan and environmental review for the 80-acre golf course site. The vote paved the way for developer Hunter Emerson to purchase the site and build a proposed, 170-unit housing development on the beloved 18-hole course. Now that the decision is made, Maguire hopes the …

VIDEO: Save Parkview Supporter Reacts to Council's Decision

Save Parkview Coalition spokesperson Mark Skweres believes Eagan Mayor Mike Maguire treated opposition to the Parkview redevelopment plans unfairly on Tuesday night.

Editor's Note: Eagan Mayor Mike Maguire sat down with Patch on Thursday to discuss the council's Parkview decision, and to respond to the criticism leveled by opponents of the vote. Click here to view his video. Eagan Mayor Mike Maguire's treatment of a potential, third-party buyer interested in saving Parkview Golf Course has Parkview supporters fuming. Deep into a six-hour deliberation on Tuesday, Maguire grilled Eagan resident Jeff Varela over his last-minute, $1.5 million offer for the 80-acre golf course property. In the end, Maguire and other council members ruled that Varela's offer wasn't a viable offer for the property. The amount offered was significantly lower than the roughly $3.5 million assessed value of property, according …

Fate of Parkview Golf Course Decided After Six-Hour Debate

Amid heated words, the Eagan City Council voted Tuesday to allow developer Hunter Emerson to redevelop the well-known local golf course.

Click here to view his video. Once bitten, twice shy. The Eagan City Council said yes on Tuesday night to a proposal to convert the 80-acre Parkview Golf Course property into a 170-unit residential development, with many council members citing an all-too-similar 2007 court ruling and settlement against the city as a significant factor in their decision. The council's climactic decision came after roughly six hours of emotionally-charged discussion and testimony. One Eagan resident left the council chamber after hurling an insult at Mayor Mike Maguire. Following…

Great more cookie cutter houses and lost green space. Sad that the city rather have another housing development than some place where youth can spend time outdoors. Although there are a lot of people that rather build new homes than try to find one that is already built and make it their own. Pretty soon it will be like Chicago, buy a house for $250K, knock it down spend another $300K building a …   more ›

What You Need to Know About the Parkview Golf Course Debate

On Tuesday, the Eagan City Council is expected to vote whether to allow a developer to build a 177-home residential development at the current site of Parkview Golf Course in Eagan.

After a death threat, protests by frustrated citizens and numerous studies and recommendations, the Eagan City Council is expected to issue a climactic decision on Tuesday concerning the controversial Parkview Golf Course redevelopment. Last year, Eden Prairie-based Developer Hunter Emerson submitted plans to buy the golf course and convert the 80-acre property into a 177-unit housing development. The proposal almost immediately drew resistance from neighbors, who feel the development would have detrimental effects on the area. To complicate matters further, another buyer has made an offer on the golf course property, and wants to maintain it as a golf course. An attorney representing Hunter Emerson said the company declined the offer for …

UPDATED: Eagan Resident Makes 11th-Hour Offer to Purchase, Preserve Parkview

Jeff Varela has submitted what he calls a "credible, seven-digit" offer for the 80-acre golf course, just days before city officials will vote to decide the golf course's fate.

Days before the Eagan City Council is expected to vote on the controversial Parkview Golf Course redevelopment proposal, another buyer has stepped forward with an offer to purchase the property and preserve it as a golf course. Longtime Eagan resident Jeff Varela said on Friday that he has made a "credible, seven-digit offer" for the 80-acre, 18-hole golf course, which is at the center of a hot debate over property use. Varela said he plans to operate a family-run golf course on the property, if the current property owners agree to take his offer. Varela isn't the only one with eyes on the golf course property, which sits near the intersection of Pilot Knob Road and Cliff Road in southern Eagan. Eden Prairie-based developer Hunter Emerson …

Climactic Vote on Controversial Parkview Development Will Have to Wait

The Eagan City Council won't be voting whether to approve a 177-unit housing development on the Parkview Golf Course property until April.

Follow Eagan Patch on Twitter | Like us on Facebook | Sign up for our daily newsletter | Blog for us The Eagan City Council's climactic vote on a controversial housing development may be delayed for several months while the council waits for an updated traffic study to be completed. For months, Eden Prairie-based Developer Hunter Emerson has been working to revise its plans for a 177-unit housing development on the 80-acre Parkview Golf Course property along Cliff Road in Eagan. The council was expected to review those plans on Feb. 5 and vote whether to approve a subdivision and preliminary planned development agreement that would allow Hunter Emerson to move forward on the project. Eagan Planning Commission Says No to Parkview Redevelopment Proposal

The battle over a company's controversial proposal to redevelop Eagan's last 18-hole golf course reignited this week during an Eagan Planning Commission public hearing.

Follow Eagan Patch on Twitter | Like us on Facebook | Sign up for our daily newsletter | Blog for us Is a 20-foot buffer between a residential development and a county park really wide enough? Not according to the Eagan Planning Commission, which voted Tuesday night to recommend denial of developer Hunter Emerson's proposal to convert the 80-acre Parkview Golf Course in Eagan into a 177-unit residential development. The developer's plans for the golf course property include a tennis court, basketball court, connecting trails, a pavilion and other amenities.
