Interstate 35E Construction Moves North to Eagan in June

Expect delays as MnDOT reduces northbound and southbound traffic to a single lane from Apple Valley to Cliff Road.

The road work may have already started on Interstate 35E, but the most significant portions of the project—and the worst traffic headaches—have yet to come. Starting in mid-June, the northbound and southbound sides of the interstate will be reduced to a single lane from just north of 150th Street in Apple Valley to Cliff Road in Eagan as the Minnesota Department of Transportation repairs bridges and does surfacing work. No hard dates have yet been set for the lane closures, but once implemented, the closures will likely remain in effect for at least 30 days. Watch Out Motorists: Major Interstate 35E Closures Start May 3

MnDOT will be closing portions of Interstate 35E and 35W in May to make repairs to the freeway interchange in Burnsville.

South metro motorists are in for a headache during road construction season this year. Major road improvements will close southbound Interstate 35E between County Road 42 and the 35E/35W interchange in Burnsville starting May 3, according to a news release issued by the Minnesota Department of Transportation. Crews will be installing a new deck on a bridge near the interchange. Southbound I-35E will be open again on June 2, but until then motorists will have to detour to westbound Interstate 494, then onto southbound Interstate 35W to bypass the road closures, according to MnDOT officials. Open House Scheduled for Major Interstate 35E Construction

This session will be held from 7:30 a.m. to 9 a.m. on Tuesday, April 16, in the Elko New Market Library.

UPDATED: Alcohol Involved in Crash That Seriously Injured Michael Brodkorb

The 39-year-old Eagan resident was listed in critical condition following the accident, which took place on Interstate 35E in Mendota Heights.

The accident took place at 9:15 p.m. on Wednesday night, according to the Minnesota State Patrol. Brodkorb, a 39-year-old Eagan resident, wasn't wearing his seatbelt at the time of the accident, according to a state patrol accident report. Alcohol was also detected on Brodkorb's breath following the accident, the state patrol said. Brodkorb, a political activist who authored the blog "Minnesota Democrats Exposed," was elected to the position of deputy chair of the Minnesota GOP in 2010…

MnDOT to Close Portions of Southbound Interstate 35E for 30 Days Over Summer 2013

This summer, Dakota County's Interstate 35 Corridor will be riddled with detours and diversions as the state refurbishes one of the most heavily trafficked roads in Minnesota.

The two-part, $20 million project is expected to cause significant backups and delays.  The fork between I-35E and I-35W will be the most drastically affected. Suicidal Man at Center of Bridge Standoff on Probation for Sex Offense

Eagan police say 37-year-old Oudone Xiong, of St. Paul, was on probation for a first-degree criminal sexual conduct conviction.

The man at the center of a lengthy standoff on the Interstate 35E bridge on Tuesday afternoon is a St. Paul resident on probation for first-degree criminal sexual conduct. Eagan police identified Oudone Xiong, 37, as the man who surrendered to police shortly after 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, following a five-hour standoff that involved dozens of police officers. The standoff, which began when Xiong allegedly threatened to jump from the bridge, all but shut down northbound traffic throughout the afternoon and evening. The incident began on Tuesday when Xiong allegedly told his probation officer that he was experiencing suicidal feelings, according to a press release issued by the Eagan Police Department. Lane Closures Scheduled Next Week for I-35E in Eagan

The closures are expected to shut down portions of the freeway between Lone Oak Road and Hwy. 13 on Monday morning.

Editor's Note: The following is a press release from the Minnesota Department of Transportation. Interstate 35E motorists may encounter delays on both directions of I-35E as lane closures take place between Lone Oak Road and Hwy. 13 starting at 8 a.m. Monday, June 25. Northbound and southbound I-35E will be reduced to a single lane from 10 a.m. to 12 noon on June 25. The lane closures are needed as crews remove core samples from the pavement. All lanes of both directions of I-35E will reopen by 3 p.m. June 26, and no lanes  will be closed during rush hour.

Here's a look at how some Eagan roads will be affected this spring, summer and fall by Minnesota Department of Transportation road projects.

The Minnesota Department of Transportation on Thursday released its 2012 construction plan for Minnesota roads. The list includes six projects in or around Eagan that may have an impact on Eagan residents traveling in the area.
