Eagan Council Warms Up to Proposed Pilot Knob Improvements

The consternation that marked a January meeting on the proposed reconstruction of a portion of Pilot Knob Road was nowhere in sight last week.

After rejecting Dakota County's Pilot Knob Road corridor study findings in January as premature and harmful to local businesses, the Eagan City Council came around to the idea last week. At a regular meeting on Tuesday, May 7, the council unanimously approved the county's long-term recommendation to add a third southbound lane to Pilot Knob through the Pilot Knob and Yankee Doodle Road intersection to improve flow. The plan also calls for the eventual elimination of the Wells Fargo driveway entrance just north of that intersection and several other improvements. The improvements are needed, county officials say, to relieve heavy traffic and reduce accident risks on a .36-mile-long stretch between Yankee Doodle Road and Central Parkway. In …

Sounds like a good idea. I frequent the Panera at the Eagan Promenade. Making left turns out of that intersection is nearly impossible.   more ›

Maguire: County's Pilot Knob Road Proposal "Premature", Harmful to Local Businesses

Dakota County officials, Eagan City Council members and a handful of local business owners sparred over the future of a busy portion of Pilot Knob Road on Tuesday night.

Follow Eagan Patch on Twitter | Like us on Facebook | Sign up for our daily newsletter | Blog for us After conducting a months-long traffic study on a portion of Pilot Knob Road in Eagan, Dakota County officials finally submitted a recommendation to the Eagan City Council for review. But the proposal ran into a wall of opposition at a Tuesday night meeting from council members and local business leaders. Eagan Mayor Mike Maguire rejected the recommendation during a heated debate, calling it "premature", "inflexible" and harmful to local businesses along the roadway. Pilot Knob Road has been under county scrutiny for months. County officials seek to relieve heavy traffic congestion on a .36-mile-long stretch between Yankee Doodle Road and …

Though this is anecdotal, what is statistics other than a significant number of anecdotal measurements? My observations span the most recent eight years, a wide variety of days & times, and "paydays" as well as "slow" days. If the city or county wants to put in a turn lane, …   more ›

County Eyes Roundabout, Other Options to Relieve Congestion on Pilot Knob

A portion of the roadway between Yankee Doodle Road and Central Parkway is one of the busiest—and most troubled—streets in the county.

For months, county officials have been developing improvement options for a stretch of Pilot Knob Road between Yankee Doodle Road and Central Parkway. With congestion that leaves motorists idling at crossroads for minutes at a time or forces them to make risky U-turns, and one intersection with higher-than-average crash rates, the area is one of Dakota County's busiest—and most troubled—corridors. "The U-turns, the back-up and the collisions are what we’re focusing on in terms of safety," Sebastian said. At a recent open house held in Eagan to …
