Over its 17-week span, Market Fest drew roughly 34,000 attendees. If that wasn't enough, the farmers market was honored by the American Farmland Trust, which named it the top farmers market in Minnesota and among the top 20 in the nation in 2011. So how do you follow that act up? With more innovation, according to Market Fest Coordinator Kerry Phillips. Eagan Market Fest ends its weekly farmer's market season today at dusk, and takes with its seasonal goodbye more accomplishments. Now in its fifth season, the Market Fest can boast its vote as top farmer's market in Minnesota. It's also among the top 20 in the country, as shown in recent results of a contest promoting farmer's markets. "It's very exciting to see how the community's embraced the event," said Kerry Phillips, recreation supervisor and Market Fest coordinator for the city. "Residents, they talk about it all year long." The project began five years ago with 10 vendors. Today it has about 60. Market Fest attendees cautioned.
The oppressive heat that has kept many Eagan residents indoors and looking for reprieve will end tonight, according to the National Weather Service. The excessive heat warning is scheduled to end at 9 p.m., the National Weather Service said. Heat indexes are expected to reach 110 today, according to the National Weather Service. Still, life goes on in Eagan. Tonight's Market Fest, the weekly outdoor farmer's market at 1501 Central Parkway, will continue. But attendees are encouraged to drink plenty of water and find ways to stay cool, such as taking breaks in the shade or at the nearby Community Center, according to the City of Eagan.
