Brodkorb Pleads Guilty to DUI in Lilydale Crash
The former Senate staffer received a year probation and fines and fees totaling $836.
Eagan resident Michael Brodkorb, the former Senate staffer seriously injured in a January car crash in Lilydale, pleaded guilty Wednesday to driving under the influence of alcohol. A Dakota County District Court judge sentenced him to a year of probation for the fourth degree DUI, and he paid fines and fees totaling $836, according to the Pioneer Press. Brodkorb, 39, told the paper he didn't remember much of what happened after he left the Moose Country on Jan. 23 but that he felt lucky to be alive. "You just look at the world different when you get a second chance," he said. "Statistically, I should not have walked away from the accident the way that I did." Brodkorb Charged With DUI, Careless Driving in Connection to January Crash
The former Senate staffer and Eagan resident was seriously injured on Jan. 23 when he lost control of his vehicle on the Interstate 35E bridge near Lilydale.
Eagan resident Michael Brodkorb—a former Senate staffer whose meteoric rise in the GOP ranks once made headlines—now faces criminal charges in connection to a traffic accident in January. Lilydale City Attorney Thomas Lehmann charged Brodkorb with two misdemeanor counts of fourth-degree DUI, one misdemeanor count of careless driving and one petty misdemeanor seatbelt violation, according . If convicted on one of the DUI charges, Brodkorb could face a maximum of 90 days in jail and a $1,000 fine. The seatbelt violation is a petty misdemeanor punishable with a $300 fine. The former Republican staffer had an alcohol concentration of 0.10, above the limit of 0.08 for impaired driving, according to a urine sample analyzed by the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension. The accident took place at 9:15 p.m. on Wednesday night, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.
