High school sophomore and Eagan resident Megan Linder took first place in the 400-meter dash at the state track meet earlier this month. Now, she's setting her sights even higher.
Follow Eagan Patch on Twitter | Like us on Facebook | Sign up for our daily newsletter In Megan Linder's first race as a member of the girls varsity track team at Cretin-Durham Hall, she beat back sleet and cold temperatures to break a three-decade-old school record for the 400-meter dash. The race, which stunned her sprinting coach, Gerald Macken, was a sign of things to come for the then-ninth-grader. "People were gasping when she took off in the race, because they thought she was going way too fast and would never finish," Macken remembers. "It was obvious from the first race she ever had here that she was very talented." Fast forward nearly two years, and Linder, an Eagan resident, is a state track star. Earlier this month, Linder …

Eagan High School squared off against the Spuds on Thursday at the Xcel Energy Center in the first round of the state hockey tournament.
The Eagan High School boys hockey team couldn't push through the determined goalkeeping of Moorhead's Michael Bitzer in the quarter final round of the state boys hockey tournament on Thursday afternoon. The Wildcats tallied 35 shots to Moorhead's 23 over the course of the game, but failed to score a single goal, falling 4-0 to the Spuds in the class AA state tournament. The game started well for the third-ranked Wildcats, who entered the state tournament with a 24-3-1 record. The team put early and persistent pressure on the Spuds' defense through the beginning of the second period. But the tide began to turn when Moorhead’s Jesse Doschadis scored off a rebound with 7:31 left in the second period. Moorhead senior Logan Ness scored two more…

Eagan High School's One Act Play team relies on precision timing and quick thinking in a fast-paced competition.
Lennie Small died too early. That was the buzz after the Eagan High School One Act Play team wrapped up its performance of "Of Mice and Men" at the Minnesota State High School League's One-Act Play Festival last Friday. High school teams participating in the one-acts are limited to 35 minutes of stage time. Go over that limit, and the team is disqualified. With the clock running out for Eagan, the cast decided to skip several lines and head straight to the pivotal scene in "Of Mice and Men"—Lennie's tragic death at the hands of his friend, George Milton. The move kept them under the time limit, and the team went on to win a coveted star rating from a panel of judges at the festival, which was held at St. Catherine University in St. Paul. …
