Eagan city officials unveiled the preliminary designs for a new, $19 million parking ramp on Tuesday, amid debate on whether the ramp should include two levels—as originally planned—or three levels for greater parking volume. The ramp, which will be built in tandem with the Paragon outlet mall project in Eagan's Cedar Grove Redevelopment Area, would provide parking for the 440,000-square-foot mall and other commercial developments built in the area. In the end, the Eagan City Council approved a preliminary, two-level concept plan—with the ability to add a third level later, if needed. DEED announced last Thursday that Eagan will receive $596,955 in grant funding as part of the departments Contamination Cleanup Grant Program to help fund the clean up of the Paragon outlet mall site in the city's Cedar Grove neighborhood. The city was one of eight Minnesota municipalities to receive funding from the program this year, according to a DEED press release. Paragon Outlet Partners announced on Monday that Saks Fifth Avenue Off 5th—a discount luxury retailer—will anchor a 28,000-square-foot space in an upscale outlet mall planned for Eagan. Off 5th is just one of roughly 100 upscale outlets that will likely fill the 400,000-square-foot outlet mall, according to a press release issued by Paragon. The Baltimore, Md.-based company plans to begin construction of the mall earlier in 2013, after the city of Eagan wraps up infrastructure improvements in the area.
