The consternation that marked a January meeting on the proposed reconstruction of a portion of Pilot Knob Road was nowhere in sight last week.
After rejecting Dakota County's Pilot Knob Road corridor study findings in January as premature and harmful to local businesses, the Eagan City Council came around to the idea last week. At a regular meeting on Tuesday, May 7, the council unanimously approved the county's long-term recommendation to add a third southbound lane to Pilot Knob through the Pilot Knob and Yankee Doodle Road intersection to improve flow. The plan also calls for the eventual elimination of the Wells Fargo driveway entrance just north of that intersection and several other improvements. The improvements are needed, county officials say, to relieve heavy traffic and reduce accident risks on a .36-mile-long stretch between Yankee Doodle Road and Central Parkway. In …

Church members created a "stream of light" along Pilot Knob Road and slept outside as part of an awareness event at the church.
Easter Lutheran Church members took the streets armed with jackets, flashlights and posters on Saturday to raise awareness for homelessness in Dakota County. The 'flash mob' created a stream of light along Pilot Knob Road between Diffley and Cliff Roads as they put their faith into action at sunset, according to church spokesperson Laura Hoeft. Prior to the flash mob event, the church hosted a concert by the Concordia Tintinnabula. Following the flash mob, members of Easter Lutheran and other local residents slept outside in cardboard boxes and were educated about homelessness in Minnesota, Hoeft said. More than 10,000 people are homeless in Minnesota, according to a recent Wilder Foundation study. The number of homeless men and women in …

The driver, a 70-year-old Eagan woman, was cited for failure to yield to a pedestrian—a misdemeanor offense, Wills said. The speed limit is 45 mph along that stretch of road, Wills said.

I bank in person at Wells Fargo, and have not once seen a collision or even a near-collision at the Wells Fargo driveway. Though this is anecdotal, what is statistics other than a significant number of anecdotal measurements? My observations span the most recent eight years, a wide variety of days & times, and "paydays" as well as "slow" days. If the city or county wants to put in a turn lane, …   more ›
