Rosemount’s Brandon Ekeren kicked a game-winning 31-yard field goal with just 12 seconds left to lift the Irish past the Wildcats. The Irish won with a final score of 17-16. The loss dropped the Wildcats to 0-4 in the South Suburban Conference and 0-5 on the season. It was the second straight heartbreaking loss for the Wildcats, who lost to Eastview 15-12 last week. At 7 p.m. on Sept. 28, the Wildcats will take on Rosemount at Eagan High School's Wildcat Stadium. The school will be selling football tickets in Spirit Hall at the high school in advance of Friday’s game on Thursday, Sept. 27. Ticket sale times are before school from 6:50 a.m. to 8 a.m. and during the high school lunch hour from 10:40 a.m. to 12 p.m. Tickets are $5 for students and $7 for adults. One day after losing 4-0 to Moorhead in the state hockey tournament, the Eagan Wildcats boys hockey team defeated Maple Grove 4-1.
Less than 30 seconds into their Friday morning consolation match against Maple Grove, Eagan High School senior Cody Mason scored for the boys hockey team. It was a sign of good things to come for the Wildcats, who proceeded to a 4-1 victory over Maple Grove. The game came one day after the Wildcats fell 4-0 to the Moorhead Spuds in the quarterfinal round of the Class AA state boys hockey tournament at the Xcel Energy Center. Eli May scored for the Wildcats during a power play in the first period. Mason and Will Merchant each added goals in the third period. Maple Grove scored its lone goal in the second period. Eagan High School squared off against the Spuds on Thursday at the Xcel Energy Center in the first round of the state hockey tournament.
The Eagan High School boys hockey team couldn't push through the determined goalkeeping of Moorhead's Michael Bitzer in the quarter final round of the state boys hockey tournament on Thursday afternoon. The Wildcats tallied 35 shots to Moorhead's 23 over the course of the game, but failed to score a single goal, falling 4-0 to the Spuds in the class AA state tournament. The game started well for the third-ranked Wildcats, who entered the state tournament with a 24-3-1 record. The team put early and persistent pressure on the Spuds' defense through the beginning of the second period. The Eagan High School girls hockey team will challenge the top-seeded Minnetonka High School girls hockey team during their first state tournament game on Thursday evening. The battle begins Thursday at 6 p.m. at the Xcel Energy Center. Click here for the tournament bracket. Minnetonka (25-5-1) is defending its 2011 Class AA State Hockey title against the Wildcats (22-3-3). Eagan took down Apple Valley 2-1 in the Class 2A, Section 3 championship game last week. Roseville is the No. 2 seed in the state tournament and will play Grand Rapids/Greenway on Thursday at 11 a.m. If Eagan wins, the team play again at 8 p.m. on Friday. The championship game is 7 p.m. on Saturday.

Nearly 50 teams squared off at the Target Center on Friday and Saturday.
The Wildcats were one of 47 teams competing atthe state dance tournament, which took place on Friday and Saturday at the Target Center in Minneapolis. Although Eagan High School wasn't among the top finishers at the state competition this weekend, the team placed third in High Kick and second in Jazz at the sections tournament earlier this year. According to results released by the Minnesota State High School League, the Trojet Dance Team of Wayzata won its fifth Class AAA title at the Jazz competition on Friday, with Maple Grove taking second place and Eastview taking third.
