Propelled by a 4-1 victory over Eagan High School, the Eastview High School boys hockey team is heading to state—the team's first appearance at the tournament since 2001. Eastview, 15-9-1 in the regular season, will have its work cut out for them as the team faces top-ranked Hill-Murray (22-2-1), which has qualified for the tournament seven of the last eight years. The game is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. on Thursday, March 7 at the Xcel Energy Center in downtown St. Paul. One day after losing 4-0 to Moorhead in the state hockey tournament, the Eagan Wildcats boys hockey team defeated Maple Grove 4-1.
Less than 30 seconds into their Friday morning consolation match against Maple Grove, Eagan High School senior Cody Mason scored for the boys hockey team. It was a sign of good things to come for the Wildcats, who proceeded to a 4-1 victory over Maple Grove. The game came one day after the Wildcats fell 4-0 to the Moorhead Spuds in the quarterfinal round of the Class AA state boys hockey tournament at the Xcel Energy Center. The Eagan High School boys hockey team couldn't push through the determined goalkeeping of Moorhead's Michael Bitzer in the quarter final round of the state boys hockey tournament on Thursday afternoon. The Wildcats tallied 35 shots to Moorhead's 23 over the course of the game, but failed to score a single goal, falling 4-0 to the Spuds in the class AA state tournament. The game started well for the third-ranked Wildcats, who entered the state tournament with a 24-3-1 record. The team put early and persistent pressure on the Spuds' defense through the beginning of the second period. The pair of Eagan wrestlers were eliminated at Saturday's state tournament
Two members of the Eagan wrestling team finished up their seasons Saturday at the Class AAA state meet at the Xcel Energy Center. Jonas Gabreab lost to Rochester Mayo’s Jake Hanson 8-5 on Saturday, effectively eliminating him from the 130-pound tournament. He finished the state tournament with a 1-2 record.
