Despite support from the Minnesota GOP, Patch's panel thinks the amendment to define marriage as a union between one man and one woman will fall short.
Twin Cities Republicans aren't confident the so-called Marriage Amendment will make its way into the constitution after Tuesday's general election. In a flash poll issued Friday to Patch's panel of Republican politicians and activists, the majority believed the amendment, which requires a "yes" vote to be added to the constitution by voters, would fall short. About 57 percent of the 33 survey responders said the amendment would fall short. Our Republican panel also felt Barack Obama, running to remain president, had conducted a better campaign in Minnesota, a state he's favored to win in Tuesday night's election. "It's going to be exceedingly close, on the Presidential race and on both amendment questions," one pundit said. The …

Looking energetic and sounding "presidential," Mitt Romney turned back President Barack Obama in the first of three debates between the two men vying for the top office in the country. Our panel of local politicos weighed in late last night.
Former Gov. Mitt Romney looked less like a "frontrunner" and more like a man on the attack Wednesday night, emerging as the winner of the first presidential debate, according to participants in the area's "Red Twin Cities" and "Blue Twin Cities" surveys, conducted by Patches around the Minneapolis and St. Paul suburbs and exurbs. The "flash" style polls were conducted just hours after the debate from Denver came to close. Obama "missed his opporunity," according to one Democractic member of our panels. Another called him "rusty" in his first debate since winning two of the three presidential debates back in 2008. Demcocrats were defensive of the president, not surprisingly. However, more than half of our pollsters said Mitt Romney won …

To help voters, Dakota County Commissioner Tom Egan also reviews the changes coming to voting precincts in Eagan.

I have had the privilege of serving as chair of the board during one and vice chair during two of those years. I look forward to serving the residents of District Three with equal enthusiasm for the next four years. Dakota is a great County and the Dakota County Board has worked hard to keep it that way. Dakota County has the lowest per-capita tax levy of all metropolitan area counties and the third lowest in the entire state. We have set as a board goal to never stop …

The local elections are heating up, judging from all the letters to the editor Eagan Patch has been receiving.
Follow Eagan Patch on Twitter | Like us on Facebook | Sign up for our daily newsletter | Blog for us To the Editor: Education is important to a healthy economy and a prosperous future, so it’s important we get the facts straight about who is up to the task of representing our kids at the State Capitol. Rep. Doug Wardlow voted to borrow $2.4 billion from our schools. As a result, schools in the Burnsville School District saw a $24 million cut and schools in the Rosemount-Apple Valley-Eagan district were cut nearly $67 million! Then when given the opportunity to pay back our schools in full by closing the tax loopholes that allow corporations to hide money overseas, Wardlow voted no. Of most concern to me is that Rep. Wardlow is a proud …

This letter writer has a less-than-positive opinion of House District 51B Rep. Doug Wardlow's track record when it comes to public education.
Follow Eagan Patch on Twitter | Like us on Facebook | Sign up for our daily newsletter | Blog for us To the Editor, I am writing in response to a letter written that lauds Rep. Wardlow’s support of public education. Rep. Wardlow’s voting record indicates otherwise. If the letter writer would look at Rep. Wardlow’s voting record over the past two legislative sessions, they would find he has consistently voted for legislation that negatively impacts ISD 196. What his voting record shows is a consistent failure to vote for legislation that would aid ISD 196 and all Minnesota school districts. I believe a legislator’s voting record indicates where there priorities are and what they support. It is obvious that Rep. Wardlow’s priorities are …
