Surprise Phone Call Made All the Difference for Apple Valley Resident on NBC's 'The Voice'

Eastview High School graduate Dustin Hatzenbuhler appeared in front of the celebrity judges on NBC's "The Voice" in an episode aired last week.

The call–from a strange California number—came in while Dustin Hatzenbuhler was mowing the grass. So Hatzenbuhler did what many do; he screened the caller. It wasn't until he checked the message moments later that the Apple Valley resident realized he'd just missed an out-of-the-blue call from a producer on NBC's "The Voice". The producer, Hatzenbuhler said, wanted him to audition for the show. "Nobody was around, and nobody was in my house, and I was just like 'I can't tell anybody about this right now, I was just too full of excitement," Hatzenbuhler said. Hatzenbuhler, who made it to the nationally televised blind auditions, performed Michael Bublés' "Haven’t Met You Yet" in an episode aired last week. Click here to check out Dustin …

Eagan High School graduate Nicholas David, who took third place on "The Voice" in 2012, returned to his alma mater for a pep fest performance on Thursday.

Crotty wasn't the only student wowed by the musician's afternoon performance during the performance, which took place during the high school's pep fest event. Hundreds of students packed the gymnasium floor to dance, shoot video with their smartphones and take in Nicholas' laid back vibe. The soulful singer, who took third place on the last season of NBC's hit musical competition "The Voice", grew up in Eagan and graduated from Eagan High School—where he played football and basketball. …

"It brought me to tears," Nicholas David recalled to an enraptured audience at the church on Thursday afternoon. "I saw that you guys were praying and knowing that’s where I came from; it really was a tremendous push to keep going." The singer, who took third place in December on the televised musical competition, staged a homecoming performance in front of hundreds of students and community members at the church. The singer graduated from St. Joseph School in 1995—long before he was catapulted into the national spotlight on NBC's televised singing competition.
