A longtime judge's favorite, David was announced as the third place winner behind Terry McDermott, who took second place, and winner Cassadee Pope. Indications earlier in the day—namely the iTunes sales chart, which showed David in a distant third by virtue of his music sales in comparison to the other two—were that he would not likely take the grand prize. Nancy Nguyen keeps her eyes locked on the flat-screen TV at Ansari's Mediterranean Grill as her high school friend Nicholas David stands jubilant in his silver suit and flop sweat. David has just finished a peppy rendition of “Great Balls of Fire” on “The “Voice” and is listening to Cee Lo Green’s praise. “Your fire tonight burned this house down,” Green says and Nguyen gives a vicarious grin, baring her two rows of strong, white teeth. Nguyen went to Dakota Hills Middle and Eagan High with David and remembers him as a “popular guy” who “spoke from the heart.” “Back in the day (when he was drinking) I drove him home and he played the piano just for me, just rocking out,” Nguyen said. Nicholas Mrozinski—also known by his stage name, Nicholas David—has for a time considered himself a b-grade celebrity. A contestant on NBC's "The Voice," Mrozinski has had plenty of prime-time television to elevate him to the next level. He's certainly got fans in Minnesota. Last week Mrozinski performed in front of a sea of cheering fans at the Mall of America in Bloomington, just a few miles from where he went to high school in Eagan. "It was really amazing to come home to such a warm welcome," said Mrozinski. "It filled me up with so much energy." On Monday night, the vocalist belted out Joe Cocker's "You Are so Beautiful."
