Eagan Man Accused of Plowing into Pine Tree, Fleeing the Scene on Foot

Police say Shawn Dezzraye Boring, 27, made a break for it after crashing his car, but left his wallet and vehicle title-work in plain view on the front seat.

An Eagan man faces DWI charges after he allegedly swerved off the road, jumped the curb, tore through a neighbor's lawn and, finally, slammed his car into a tree.

Shawn Dezzraye Boring, 27, has been charged with two counts of second-degree DWI, a gross misdemeanor punishable by up to a year in jail and $3,000 in fines. He also faces three lesser charges for reckless driving, leaving the scene of an accident, and driving after revocation.

The accident occurred on Sunday, June 30, at the intersection of Lexington and Falcon Way. While police were en route, witnesses reported that the driver had fled the accident scene on foot, running in the general direction of Abbey Way and St. Francis Way.

On arrival, the investigating officer found a crowd around the vehicle, a green Isuzu Rodeo, which had crashed into a pine tree. The front end was mangled and the driver was nowhere in sight.

Witnesses said that the vehicle was traveling south on Lexington, which is in a 50 mile per hour zone. The car left the roadway as the driver tried to make a right turn onto Falcon Way, veered into a nearby yard and struck the tree. The homeowner happened to be working outside on the lawn at the time.

At least three people witnessed the accident or its aftermath, and were able to describe the suspect. One neighbor was sitting on her balcony when she heard a crash, then spotted a man hobbling away, dragging his left leg.
second witness did not see the accident itself, but heard it while on her balcony, saw a man matching Boring's description hobbling away, dragging his left leg.

In addition, Boring allegedly left his wallet in plain sight on the front seat, along with ownership papers tying him to the car. Boring lives only a block away from the scene.

Police found him at the address listed on his license. When apprehended, Boring appeared intoxicated. He failed several field sobriety tests. He was positively identified by the homeowner.

Boring has two previous convictions for DWI, dating from December 2006 and November 2012. He has also been implicated in a recent incident at a Taco Bell in Eagan, when he allegedly tried to fight employees manning the drive-thru window.
