Firefighters of all ages got a chance to see how the pros work Saturday as the Eagan Fire Department marked 2011 Fire Prevention Week with an open house and tour of the new Eagan Fire Saefty Center.

The fire safety center, located at 1001 Station Trail, at the corner of Yankee Doodle and Wescott Woodlands Rd., drew a large crowd of curious adults and eager kids Saturday.

The event featured fire vehicles to examine and sit in, station tours, the smoke house, an interactive smoke scenario for families to learn about escape procedures, fire service demonstrations, information about detectors and opportunities for audience participation including shooting a fire hose and putting out a small fire with an extinguisher.

The new Eagan Fire Safety Center, the country’s first Green Globes Certified fire station in the country opened earlier this summer. It replaces two former fire facilities and is located to provide improved response times for Eagan residents.
