Laurie Halverson Seeks House District 38B Seat

Laurie Halverson, of Eagan, on Wednesday announced her candidacy for the Minnesota House of Representatives.

Active Eagan resident Laurie Halverson on Wednesday announced her bid for a seat in the state House of Representatives District 38B. Halverson, registered with the DFL, filed with the Minnesota Campaign Finance and Public Disclosure Board on Monday, according to registration information.

Doug Wardlow currently represents 38B.

Halverson since 2006 has served on the Eagan Advisory Parks and Recreation Commission, and has been an active leader for the Eagan Foundation, according to a news release. She graduated from the College of St. Catherine in St. Paul with a degree in political science, and has a Master of Public Affairs from the Humphrey School of Public Affairs at the University of Minnesota, the release states.

Halverson previously worked at Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota in Eagan, and now is a stay-at-home mom with her three-year-old son, Kai. Her husband is a pilot for Mesaba Airlines, a news release states.

Originally from the Chisago Lakes area, a statement explains that politics is in her heritage. Three generations of people in Halverson's family served in local and state elected official roles, in Minnesota and Wisconsin.

“My focus on supporting great schools, providing access to affordable health care and growing jobs isn’t just a political stance; it reflects who I am as a person and as citizen of this state,” Halverson is quoted as saying in a prepared statement. “Growing up in Minnesota, the value of public service has been deeply ingrained in me—we can’t just sit on the sidelines, we must make our voices heard. We have big challenges in front of us as a state, and now is the time for solutions, not partisan politics.”

The election for all 134 seats for the Minnesota House of Representatives is Nov. 6, 2012.
