Pertussis can affect anyone, but it can be much more serious in infants. Pertussis is spread through the air by coughing. Now that children have returned to school, it is important that children and parents are up-to-date on their immunizations. Flu vaccinations are also available to help protect children and adults from the seasonal flu.

Dakota County Public Health provides reduced-fee immunizations, including pertussis vaccination, for children who are eligible for Minnesota Vaccines for Children (MnVFC) vaccine. There is a $14.00 administration fee, but eligible children will be immunized even if unable to pay the fee. Children who have private insurance that covers
immunizations are not eligible for MnVFC vaccine and should contact their private medical provider.

Some vaccines, including the adult pertussis booster, are available for adults 19 and older. Check our website at www.dakotacounty.us (search “Vaccines for Adults”) or call 952-891-7528 for eligibility guidelines and vaccine availability.

MnVFC Eligibility Guidelines:

  • Children (18 years of age and younger) who do not have health insurance
  • Children on a Minnesota Health Care Program (MA, MnCare, or PMAP - please bring your medical card)
  • Children who are American Indian or Alaskan Native
