Eagan High School Robotics Team Shows Off at the Minnesota State Fair

The robotics team showed their skills and let people build robots on the opening day of the State Fair.

Eagan High School students got to show off their robots and their skills on the opening day of the Minnesota State Fair on Thursday.

The school's robotics team had a booth at Carousel Park on the fairgrounds in St. Paul. The booth was one of several participating in STEM Day at the fair. STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering and Math.

Adults and kids who stopped by the booth got a chance to play with robots, as well as contribute to robot projects in progress.

It was an especially big day for Eagan High School's team. It was announced at the State Fair that the team has been accepted into the Minnesota State High School League, said Jenny Filipi, one of about 10 volunteer mentors for the robotics team. That means it can have some paid mentors and will be treated as an official sport, she said.

Filipi said building robots develops skills that are applicable in fields like engineering, manufacturing and design.
