Get Out: Weekend Activities In and Around Eagan

Learn how to maintain a car, listen to handbell choirs or see model trains in action this weekend!


  • When/Where:
    7:30 p.m. on Friday at the Burnsville Performing Arts Center in Burnsville.
    Why Go:
    For this special performance three local handbell ensembles come together to delight audiences of all ages through the music of handbells, featuring some of the whimsical music from Disney’s film Fanstasia. Bells of the Lakes, a group of auditioned ringers from the Twin Cities, will be joined by the distinguished St. Olaf College Handbell Choir and one of the few youth handbell ensembles in the nation, Northern Lights Ringers from the Twin Cities.
    Cost: $25 for adults, $15 for seniors 62+, students and groups of 10 or more.

  • When/Where:
    9 a.m. on Saturday at the in Eagan.
    Why Go:
    Engineers big and small should mark their calendars for The Great Minnesota Train Expo, sponsored by “The Choo Choo Bob Show.” The show, produced in the Twin Cities, will premiere in early June on TV stations in Minneapolis/St. Paul, Sioux Falls, Duluth and Fargo. The show's host, Choo Choo Bob, and his friends will be performing, meeting kids and signing autographs as part of the expo. There will also be sneak-peek screenings of the new TV series, “The Choo Choo Bob Show.” In addition to performances and a concert by The Choo Choo Bob band, the Expo will feature everything train—including Thomas the Tank Engine play tables for kids to enjoy; inflatables to jump in, on and around; cool train layouts of all gauges to watch, as well as unique train merchandise for sale. One attendee will win a complete Lionel O Gauge train set—a $200 value.

    Why Go:

  • When/Where:
    10 a.m. on Saturday at in Eagan.
    Why Go:
    Learn how to make mud, why mud is important to wildlife and go on a mud hunt in our park. Knee High Naturalist programs explore topics in nature through hand-on activities, nature walks, stories, and art projects. Ages 3-6. Registration required.
    Cost: $8 per student

  • When/Where:
    1 p.m. on Saturday at the BP gas station at 4205 Nicols Rd. in Eagan.
    Why Go:
    Ladies, learn the ins and outs of your car at the free, informative afternoon event, held at the BP gas station near the Cedar Diffley BP. Learn how to keep your vehicle running well, and feel more comfortable when discussing needed repairs. Gift bags will be availabl for all, and free refreshments are included.
