Jazz, Poetry Slams, Stand-Up Comedy Scheduled on Valentine's Day

  • Listen to a Jazz Performance at Pardon My French
    When/Where:
    6 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Tuesday at
    Why Go:
    Dine on Lamb Wellington or Champagne Chicken and sip wine with your special someone while you listen to singer and guitarist Joanne Bolles perform at Pardon My French in Eagan. Bolles brings thirty-plus years of training to her shows, and her retinue of songs includes jazz tunes like "La Vie En Rose" and "Route 66."

  • Collin Moulton and Jamie Blanchard at the Joke Joint
    When/Where:
    8 p.m. on Tuesday at the Joke Joint Comedy Club in Lilydale.
    Why Go: Get ready for a fast-paced and highly engaging mix of stand-up and physical comedy from Moulton, who has been featured on Comedy Central. Moulton was a “Best in Fest” feature at the Montreal Comedy Festival and has performed as a comic for more than 10 years.
    Cost: $15 per person at the door.

    11 a.m. through 9 p.m. at in Eagan.
    Why Go:
    Feeling charitable? You and your date could spend some time on Valentine's Day helping out your fellow human beings by painting a one-of-a-kind soup mug for the third annual Empty Bowls fundraiser hosted by the Eagan Resource Center. Studio hours are Color Me Mine run from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Tuesday.

  • Two Chairs Telling Featuring Nancy Donoval and Susan O'Halloran
    When/Where:
    7 p.m. on Tuesday at Bryant Lake Bowl in Minneapolis.
    Why Go:
    Smart, funny women are a joy to hear, and the Valentine's Day edition of Two Chairs Telling at Bryant Lake Bowl serves up a big hearted, no flowers, pairing of powerhouse storytelling with Nancy Donoval and Susan O’Halloran.
    Cost: $8-$12.
  • Victorian Poetry Slam
    When/Where: 7 p.m. on Tuesday at the James J. Hill House in St. Paul.
    Why Go:
    Usher in Valentine’s Day the old fashioned way by enjoying classic poems of the 19th century in the elegant drawing room of the Hill House. Actors Craig Johnson, Laura Salveson and Ann Daly, wearing 1890s eveningwear, perform a wide range of humorous and stirring poems. Visitors will hear works by Dickinson, Poe, Longfellow, Browning and others dealing with love, romance, temperance, sports, war and even poems about James J. Hill himself. Audience members are invited to bring a short Victorian poem to read aloud. The one-hour program will be followed by light refreshments and tours of the Hill House.
