Caponi Art Park 2012 Summer Performance Series

Caponi Art Park’s 2012 Summer Performance Series kicks off on Sunday, June 3 at 6:30 p.m. with an old-fashioned band concert by The First John Philip Sousa Memorial Band. The Summer Performance Series, presented by Crown Rental, is a family-friendly program that features a wide variety of music, theater and dance concerts presented free of charge on Sunday evenings in the Theater in the Woods outdoor amphitheater.

The First John Philip Sousa Memorial Band was formed in 1970 with the goal to recapture the spirit of bands at the turn of the twentieth century. The 45-piece concert band will perform music that was played in the early 1900s, including songs by John Philip Sousa, as well as some newer music that captures the same spirit. The band's talented fife players and drummers will roam the park grounds playing their instruments prior to the concert. Come early, stay late, meet the band, and bring the family.

A $5 per person donation is suggested and helps make the Summer Performance Series possible. The performance will be canceled in the event of poor weather; any weather-related announcements will be made via the park’s website, Facebook, and Twitter page. More information about the concert, as well as the Summer Performance Series, can be found at http://www.caponiartpark.org/programs/summerperformanceseries/
