Bites Nearby: Buca di Beppo

Patch welcomes Burnsville Patch by highlighting an Italian eatery near Burnsville Center that is known for big meatballs, giant taste and huge fun.

Overview:  began in a humble Minneapolis basement and now boasts 87 locations, five of which are in the Twin Cities. Buca is known for authentic Italian cuisine served family style on huge platters that will serve either three or six people. This place is loud and in-your-face and perfect for groups and celebrations. 

Décor: There seems to be a rule at Buca that no horizontal surface can be without decoration; that includes the bathrooms. Frank Sinatra singing My Way in the background adds to the ambiance. 

Drinks: Buca has a full table-service bar menu as well as a separate bar.

Appetizers: Appetizers include cheesy garlic bread ($9.95 to $11.95), fried calamari ($11.95 to $17.95), mozzarella caprese ($10.95 to $16.95) and bruschetta ($10.95 to $13.95). They also have a selection of salads including an impressive antipasto ($12.95 to $19.95).

Go with a group and sample several.

Sides: Three words: Garlic. Mashed. Potatoes. Rich, creamy, and full of garlic flavor.  Three more words: half-pound meatball. 

Desserts: The desserts are as large as the entrees and include the celebration cake that can serve 15 people ($29.95) and the Dolce Platter for six that features tiramisu, double dark chocolate cake, homemade cheesecake and apple crostata ($29.95). The colossal brownie sundae also serves six for $12.95. 

Service: Service is fast and efficient and the wait staff is full of personality.  Servers can help diners determine how much to order for their group and can be counted on to offer suggestions for first-time visitors.
