Manager of Eagan Super America Fired After Tuesday Shooting

Dustin Haberland picketed outside the store on Cliff Road after he was given the ax for not informing his district manager of the shooting "soon enough."

The former manager of a local Super America store is taking his case to the streets.

Dustin Haberland was fired a day after a two shooting victims drove into the Cliff Road store's parking lot on Aug. 13 around sometime after 2 a.m., looking for assistance. According to a report by Fox 9, Haberland was not on duty at the time, but one of his regular customers called around 3 a.m. and informed him of a hubbub at SA. Haberland called the night staff, who allegedly told him that there was no need to worry.

"He told me the cops were here on the scene, told me everything was under control—that I wasn't needed," Haberland told the television station.

Haberland hung up with an incomplete understanding of the gravity of the situation. The shooting itself took place in a residential area of Burnsville, on the 2100 block of E. 117th Street around 2 a.m. The victims then drove to an Eagan Super America on Cliff and Slater roads. According to Kare 11, one victim was pronounced dead at the gas station scene, while the other was rushed to the hospital.

The Hennepin County Medical Examiner has since identified the victim as Abdifatah Ahmed Mahumod, 23.

Haberland found out all the necessary facts when he came in for his shift at 6 a.m. He says he called his district manager immediately, but was still cut lose for not informing the company brass fast enough.

"How I got released—I am still flabbergasted," Haberland said to Fox 9.

In the wake of his termination, Haberland has taken up a picket outside the store at 2250 Cliff Road.
