UPDATED: Sleet, Freezing Rain Expected for Twin Cities

Lighter snow accumulation is expected in the metro area, as heavier snowfall totals slide north.

The heaviest parts of Minnesota's first significant winter storm are expected to strike the central and northern portions of the state, according to updated forecasts.

The Twin Cities area, including Eagan, may get between 1-3 inches of snow, sleet and freezing rain on Tuesday and into Wednesday, forecasters said.

Forecasters, including the National Weather Service, had originally called for 6-12 inches of snow in the metro area, but the storm pattern has shifted further north. Total snowfall is now expected to be 8-12 inches for areas including Alexandria and Brainerd.
