Honor Our Veterans by Participating in Beyond the Yellow Ribbon

On Monday, November 11, we celebrate Veterans Day — a day to honor our veterans, the brave men and women to whom we owe an immeasurable debt of gratitude. While we have great Veterans Day programs throughout our state — and the official state program in nearby Inver Grove Heights — our veterans deserve recognition, and our thoughts, prayers, and service beyond just Veterans Day.

One of the ways we can help our veterans and their families is through the “Beyond the Yellow Ribbon" program, which works to connect service members and their families with community support, training, services and resources.

Just a little over two years ago, Eagan began a “Yellow Ribbon City” and the Eagan Beyond the Yellow Ribbon community meets once a month to review past and plan events. Some of the wonderful events have included the Red Bulls Welcome Home, Defending the Blue Line Hockey night, and the Tribute to the Troops Run.

More information on the “Beyond the Yellow Ribbon” program and ways to participate can be found at www.btyr.org. You can also find a list of non-profit organizations supporting military families here: http://www.beyondtheyellowribbon.org/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=103&Itemid=78. I strongly encourage you to participate in these great programs and events.

From this generation of veterans, to the generations long before our time, our veterans have preserved democracy, kept us safe, and defeated some of the greatest evil the world has ever known. Please take some time to honor our veterans not only on November 11, but throughout the rest of the year as well.
