Bergman: It’s my second year in the job. I am getting more comfortable with the position this year. I have been involved four years for all the walks. The first two years I worked on registration.

Bergman: I have been involved 4 years.

Ferber: What other things have you done for them?

Bergman: I helped with the conference; the silent auction in conjunction with a concert and have volunteered at a State Fair booth.

Ferber: What is your Team name and why did you name it that?

Bergman: Team Smile. I have had a smiley face fetish since Junior High.

Ferber: How many are on your team?

Bergman: 27 individuals…so far!

Ferber: How long have you lived in Eagan?

Bergman: Almost one wonderful year.

Ferber: Why did you get involved with AFAA?

Bergman: My nephew Matt and my sister Dawn have food allergies. I am a vegetarian and know the challenges frustrations of reading labels and eating out. I was recruited through an email.

Ferber: What have been highlights of the event for you?

Bergman: Seeing the kids there enjoying themselves and being the center of attention is great. It’s their special day and it’s about them. Seeing how I can personally make a difference is very rewarding. Every person involved makes a difference. Meeting people and hearing their stories has had an effect on me. It’s also been a privilege to have the opportunity to chair a fundraising event held at the Mall of America.

Ferber: Tell me the basics for the Walk. When, where, how much?

Bergman: Saturday, March 24th. Registration is 7:00, the walk is at 8:00—no fee required but we encourage donations. We have incentives for that. It is at the Mall of America-Macy’s Court first floor. Live entertainment –Teddy Bear Band.

Ferber: Parting comments.?

Bergman I really like that AFAA pushes the awareness piece. Most people don’t get it.
