UPDATE: Domestic Dispute Preceded Arson Incident, Police Say

One Eagan police officer was transported to the hospital following a Friday morning arson incident in Eagan.

A female homeowner in the midst of a domestic dispute with her husband is a suspect following a Friday morning house fire, according to Eagan police.

Police officers responded to the 1200 block of Deerridge Court just before 11 a.m. on Friday morning, after a woman reported that her husband was trying to kill her.

When officers arrived, they heard smoke alarms going off inside the woman's home and saw smoke coming from a second story window. Three officers entered the home, believing the woman may still be inside the structure, but were unable to locate her or any other occupants. One officer was transported to the hospital after suffering from smoke inhalation, but was later released, according to Eagan police spokesperson Danielle Anselment.

The Eagan Fire Department arrived and extinguished multiple fires in at least two rooms in the home. A preliminary investigation by the State Fire Marshal's office and Eagan police and fire department officials determined that arson was the cause of the house fire, according to a press release issued by the Eagan Police Department.

Officers later located the female resident at a nearby home and took her into custody. She was transported to the hospital for psychological evaluation, according to the press release.

Anselment characterized the woman's allegations toward her husband as "questionable" and said police responded to the same residence on Thursday night following a domestic dispute between the woman and her husband. Police believe the husband left the house following the argument and had not yet returned to the home.

"We would just say that there is no evidence to support the allegations," Anselment said. "We don't believe [the husband] was there at all."

Police declined to release the name of the woman, pending the results of an investigation into the arson. The home sustained minor to moderate damage to the flooring, curtains and an exterior wall, Anselment said. No one was injured in the blaze.

"We still very actively working the case and interviewing people," Anselment said.

A middle-aged man who identified himself as a resident of the home on Friday afternoon declined to comment for the story.
