Eagan Man Charged With Threatening to Put Gun to Woman's Head

Scott Thomas Hainey is charged with terroristic threats as the result of a hostile phone conversation.

An Eagan man faces charges after allegedly threatening to put a gun to a female victim’s head.

47-year-old Scott Thomas Hainey faces one felony count of terroristic threats and one misdemeanor count of domestic assault, according to a criminal complaint filed by the Dakota County Attorney’s office. If convicted of the felony charge, Hainey faces up to five years in prison and $10,000 in fines.

The responded to reports of a man making threats over the phone at 1:46 a.m. on March 27. According to the complaint, police reported to a bar, where the victim stated that Hainey threatened to “put a .22 to her head” while they were speaking on the phone.

The complaint states that Hainey telephoned the victim while she was at the bar, asking her to specify her location and threatening her when she refused to reveal it.

According to the police, the call took place on speakerphone. A witness claims to have heard the alleged threats, the complaint said.

The police then traveled to Hainey’s residence, where they found Hainey standing in the doorway upon their arrival, wearing underwear and a sweatshirt.

According to the complaint, Hainey admitted to calling the victim, but didn’t remember threatening to hold a gun to her head.

This was the police department’s third trip to Hainey’s residence that night. Hainey’s alleged provocative behavior was the cause of each of the department’s three visits.

Hainey is currently being held at the Dakota County Jail on a $50,000 bail. His next court date is scheduled for April 24. Hainey has previous convictions for fifth-degree domestic assault and disorderly conduct.
