Minneapolis Man Accused of Punching Man in Face at Eagan Fitness Club

A Minneapolis man has been charged with assault after police say he punched another man in the face during a basketball game at an Eagan fitness center.

Chavas Corleon Eggleston, 32, is charged with felony third-degree assault, which carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a $10,000 fine.

According to the criminal complaint, Eagan police were called to Lifetime Fitness in Eagan on May 4 on an assault report.

Officers spoke to the victim, who said Eggleston punched him in the face during a 5-on-5 basketball game. Several witnesses told police the same story, according to the complaint.

Police also discovered that Eggleston began arguing with a woman on the opposing team, and during the course of the argument, he grabbed her wrists, the complaint says.

When the assault victim stepped in to intervene between the woman and Eggleston, Eggleston began arguing with the victim and punched him in the face, according to the complaint.

The victim suffered a nasal bone fracture in the assault, the complaint says.

Lifetime Fitness employees provided a video of the assault to police.

Eggleston is scheduled to make a first appearance on the charge Sept. 12 in Dakota County District Court in Hastings.
