Rosemount Victim Identified in Eagan Road Rage Shooting

With their investigation hampered by intoxicated witnesses, police are still searching for a suspect or suspects in the case.

Police have identified the woman shot in the back during an apparent road rage incident in Eagan on Sunday morning.

The 26-year-old victim is Kimberly Lawrence, a Rosemount resident, according to Eagan Police Chief Jim McDonald. Lawrence, who sustained a "non-fatal" shoulder wound, was transported to Regions Hospital on Sunday following the shooting.

Police say Lawrence was one of eight people riding in a Volkswagen Jetta in Eagan early on Sunday morning.

Police say the confrontation started when a dark-colored SUV began tailgating the Jetta, driven by 28-year-old Grant Hengy of St. Paul. When Hengy made an obscene gesture at the driver of the SUV, an occupant of the SUV responded by opening fire on Hengy's vehicle.

One round struck Lawrence, who was riding on the lap of another occupant in the front passenger seat of the car, according to police. The other round hit the passenger door of the Jetta. The incident took place after 2 a.m. on Interstate 35E between Cliff and Diffley Roads in Eagan.

When police responded to the scene, they arrested Hengy on suspicion of driving while intoxicated. Many of the witnesses interviewed by police were also intoxicated, which has hampered the Eagan Police Department's investigation, according to a press release issued by the Eagan Police Department.

Investigators are still looking for a suspect or suspects in the shooting. Anyone with information regarding the incident is encouraged to call police at 651-675-5700.
