Capitol Review: Rep. Anderson Co-authors Bill for My Life, My Choices Task Force

Task force will be aimed toward providing services and support to people with disabilities.

Here’s what’s happened this past week with bills authored or co-authored by local legislators:

State Sen. Ted Daley (R-District 38) of Eagan and Burnsville

  • Daley authored two new bills this past week. Bill SF1068 aims to provide immunity in certain cases involving the use of school facilities for recreational activities, according to the Minnesota House of Representatives website. In Bill SF1099, $250,000 from fiscal year 2012 and $250,000 from fiscal year 2013 will be taken from the general fund and moved to commissioner of veteran affairs for a grant to the Minnesota Assistance Council to provide assistance to veterans and their families, who are homeless or in danger of becoming homeless, the Minnesota House of Representatives website said.
  • Also, Daley will be hold in-district office hours at the Wescott Library from 10 a.m. until noon Saturday, April 9. Appointments are recommended and can be made by calling the Senator’s Capitol office at 651-297-8073.

State. Rep. Diane Anderson (R-District 38A) of Eagan

  • Anderson co-authored a bill (HF1339) creating the My Life, My Choices Task Force. The task force was created to provide a system of supports and services for people with disabilities governed by six principles, including "freedom to choose to take as much risk as any other citizen," and "more choices in levels of service that may vary throughout life." The task force will consist of several members, including but not limited to the lieutenant governor, the commissioner of human services and a representative of the Minnesota Chamber of Commerce."
  • Anderson also co-authored a bill (HF1359) to add certain stimulants and hallucinogens as "scheduled 1 controlled substances," and use would be punishable by law.

State. Rep. Doug Wardlow (R-District 38B) of Eagan

  • Wardlow co-authored two bills this past week. Bill (HF1319) would provide "a new Minnesota housing tax credit," and would be "effective the day following final enactment, with credit authorizations allowed for taxable years beginning after Dec. 31, 2011," according to the Minnesota House of Representatives website.
  • He also co-authored a bill (HF1351) that would provide "freedom of choice in health care, specifying state policy related to the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act; prohibiting the State of Minnesota and political subdivisions from enforcing, implementing, or funding provisions of the act."
