City Council Approves $51m In Infrastructure Projects

2012 improvements include 22 miles of roads, 12 miles of trails and myriad utility and water quality improvements totaling $12 million.

The Eagan City Council had a busy agenda on Tuesday evening, discussing items as varied as capital improvements, a horse parade and Arbor Month.

But in perhaps its most significant discussion, the council approved a five-year Capital Improvement Plan (CIP), which includes $51 million in improvements to Eagan's roadways, trails and other infrastructure. The 2012 improvements add up to $12 million of that total.

Residents who would like to know if their streets are scheduled to be improved will soon be able view the CIP document at the Westcott Library and online on the city's website. Proposed 2012 construction projects, that are now approved, are available now on the Public Works website.

In other business, the council approved a parade permit for the Tail Feather Peace Ride, a delegation of more than 40 horses and riders whose trip will originate in South Dakota on June 5, to travel through Eagan on June 17 and 18 on the way to World Peace and Prayer Day at Fort Snelling State Park.

Eagan police chief Jim McDonald is working with MNDOT on the exact route the riders will take.

The council also officially designated June 8 as Arbor Day and June as Arbor Month in Eagan.

There will be an Arbor Day celebration during Wednesday's opening of Market Fest acknowledging the 25th anniversary of Arbor Day festivities in Eagan and the 10th anniversary of the successful move of Eagan's Grandfather Tree.

Additional discussions centered around a number of conditional and interim use permit applications.
