Meet Dakota County Judges as Part of a Law Day Event

Law Day is Tuesday, May 1, 2012. Please join the Dakota County Law Library for a celebration of Law Day at the Western Service Center in Apple Valley. The Law Library will host an open house in room L139 from noon to 2:00 p.m. with refreshments and drawings to win legal guides written for the general public. Dakota County judges will be available to talk with the public from noon to 1:30 p.m. The address is 14955 Galaxie Avenue, Apple Valley.

This year’s Law Day theme is “No Courts, No Justice, No Freedom”. Law Day was originally established by President Dwight D. Eisenhower in 1958. Later, in 1961, Congress passed a Law Day statute, which is codified at 36 U.S.C. § 113. It reads in part: “…Law Day, U.S.A., is a special day of celebration by the people of the United States (1) in appreciation of their liberties and the reaffirmation of their loyalty to the United States and of their rededication to the ideals of equality and justice under law in their relations with each other and with other countries; and (2) for the cultivation of the respect for law that is so vital to the democratic way of life…”
