Maguire Receives Endorsement from LGBT-Friendly Organization

Eagan's mayor is running for the District 38 Senate seat in Eagan.

Eagan Mayor Mike Maguire, who is running for the District 38 Minnesota Senate seat this year, has been endorsed by Stonewall DFL—an LGBT-friendly caucus of the Minnesota Democratic Farmer Labor Party.

Maguire is currently campaigning against sitting District 38 Sen. Ted Daley (R), and former District 38 Senator Jim Carlson, who was defeated by Daley in 2010 and is seeking to regain his seat. Stonewall DFL is the first organization to take a position on the race between the two DFL-affilliated candidates in District 38, according to a press release issued on Thursday by Maguire.

"2012 is a critical year for our community and LGBT people across Minnesota. We have the opportunity to elect a new generation of leadership and be the first state to defeat an anti-family constitutional amendment," Stonewall DFL chair David DeGrio wrote in the press release. "Furthermore, Maguire is best poised to advocate for myriad issues affecting the LGBT community including education, health care and job growth."

"I'm honored to be Stonewall DFL-endorsed and humbled by their confidence in me," Maguire said in the release. "I, along with most Minnesotans, am offended by the choice Senator Ted Daley and his Republican majority made to put divisive politics ahead of our state's biggest challenges."
