Q&A: Council Must Ensure Lockheed Martin Redevelopment is Sustainable, Fields Says

School funding, state spending, job creation. Those are just a few of the issues that will drive voters to the polls on Nov. 6 to vote for their preferred candidate in local and state races.

To help voters learn more about Eagan City Council, House District 51A, House District 51B and Senate District 51 candidates, Eagan Patch asked all candidates to submit their responses to a set of questions regarding their views and accomplishments. Each candidate was limited to a 200-word response per question. We will publish their responses in installments leading up to Election Day. Without further ado, here are Eagan City Council candidate Cyndee Field's responses:

Eagan Patch: What inspired you to get involved in local government, and why are you running again for a seat on the Eagan City Council?

Eagan City Council Candidate Cyndee Fields: I was very involved in Eagan’s schools and the Eagan Athletic Association for a number of years. I truly believe in giving back to my community and to strive to make it a better place for our residents. 

Patch: When you look back over your tenure as an elected official, what are your most significant accomplishments? 

Fields: There are many accomplishments, as a council we have to be proud of.  Eagan being named the Top 20 Best Places to Live for the fourth time in a row says a lot. One thing I am personally proud of is the Eagan Community Center and festival grounds. This was a dream I had before I was even on council and to see it being enjoyed by our residents and people from surrounding communities is very heart-warming. 

Patch: What is something you think the current council has done well? 

Fields: Our ability to work as a team is what we do well. The respect we have for each other makes it very easy when we might not agree on an issue. Eagan is very lucky to have elected officials who are committed to working together on every issue that we face.

Patch: What are some of the most pressing, long-term issues facing Eagan and the council?  

Fields: I believe that getting our Cedar Grove TIF up and running is the most pressing long term issue we face. I see the potential of this area being one that will make our citizen’s proud. Another focus is also on the Lockheed Martin site, making sure that we see a development that can sustain itself over time.

Patch: Why should constituents vote for you in November?

Fields: I bring a positive and professional attitude, support low taxes and prudent spending and thoughtful development. These are the promises I made when I was first elected and have lived up to them.

Patch: Anything else you would like to add?

Fields: I would like to thank the residents of Eagan for allowing me to serve for the past 12 years. It has been an honor and a privilege. I would like to ask for you for your vote on Nov. 6, so I may continue to serve you and the city of Eagan.
