EHS Cross Country Star Danielle Anderson Receives Athena Award

Anderson, who led the Eagan High School girls track team through state and to a national competition last fall, is one of 39 award recipients.

Eagan High School senior Danielle Anderson, who led the girls cross country team to the Nike Cross Country Nationals in Oregon last fall, has been recognized as a St. Paul Area Athena Award recipient.

The awards are given to young women representing St. paul and nearby suburbs for their outstanding athletic achievements. This year, all 39 recipients will be honored at an awards ceremony and luncheon in Oakdale on April 17.

The event will also feature keynote speaker Rachel Blount, a sports reporter and columnist at the Star Tribune. The Athena Awards Committee is
comprised of representatives of St. Paul city and suburban schools, parents of
previous award winners, and business volunteers.

Anderson, captain of the cross country team, finished second at the Class AA state cross country championship in Northfield last November with a time of 14:06. Eagan was second in the 16-team race with 93. She was selected to be captain of the cross country team two years running, among other awards.

She is alos a volunteer at Fairview Ridges Hospital, a member of the EHS student government and a National Honor Society participant. She plans to attend the University of Minnesota this coming fall.
