Primrose School Opens in Eagan

Franchise school focuses on a combination of Montessori and traditional learning.

A school that focuses on balancing Montessori learning and traditional teaching styles has opened in Eagan.

Primrose School of Eagan opened July 18, and hosted its grand opening on Saturday. Its 11,000-square-foot location is 4249 Johnny Cake Ridge Road.

The school and child care center is open to children six weeks to five years old. Diane Storkamp, who owns the school with her husband Darren, said they plan to open the school to kindergartners next year.

The school also has a room for older children before and after school; that's for kids ages 6 to 12, Storkamp said. Part of the school's intention is to also help parents balance work and family life.

The accredited Primrose school balances traditional and Montessori teaching styles. Its daily instruction and activities include physical health, social and emotional development, language and literacy, creative expression, character development, math and science, as well as social studies, according to the school. It also has a playground and garden.

The school will have close to 30 teachers once the traditional school year begins, Storkamp said. It is licensed as a child care center, so it's open all year, she said. But come fall, she expects more children to enroll in the early-learning center.
