The cities of Burnsville and Eagan will host their very first pickleball tournament later this month.

Individuals age 40 years and older who have recreational to intermediate skills are invited to participate in the tournament. The cost to participate includes a barbecue hot dog lunch, snacks and beverages. Spectators can purchase lunch for $3 each. The top three teams will receive prizes.

Pickleball, as described by a City of Burnsville news release, combines elements of badminton, tennis and table tennis. The racquet sport is played on a court with the same dimensions as a doubles badminton court. The net is similar to a tennis net, but is mounted two inches lower. The game is played with a hard paddle and a polymer wiffle ball.
